Shanmukhi Mudra is roughly translated in English as Six Face Seal

Shanmukhi in Sanskrit is a combination of two words, “Shanmukhi” which is referred to as Six Faces and “Mudra” is a seal.

Here face is also considered as a gate, the gate of perception of the outside world.

It is also called as Aghochari Mudra.

Practitioner Level

This is an advanced level mudra which can be performed by the one who is practicing the mudras from quite a bit of time.

Mudras are not to be considered lightly, even though they might look very simple to do.

Preliminary Asanas for Shanmukhi Mudra

You can be in any of the comfortable sitting asana or postures such as Siddhasana, Vajrasana or Padmasana.

How to do Shanmukhi Mudra?

Here is a step by step procedure on how to do Shanmukhi Mudra.

  • Sit comfortably on your yoga mat.
  • Take a few deep and slow breaths to relax your body.
  • Sit in Siddhasana, Vajrasana or the Padmasana or if your body doesn't cope up then sit crosslegged.
  • Inhale slowly and deeply.
  • Hold the breath.
  • Close your eyes with forefingers, nose with middle fingers, ears with thumbs, upper lips with ring fingers, and lower lips with little fingers using both of your hands.
  • Keep your focus on the eyebrows center.
  • Keep this mudra for about 5 to 10 minutes.
  • You can close your eyes to be in a meditative state for maximum benefit.
  • Practice this mudra daily for reaping the benefits.

NOTE: You can even apply Moola Bandha as an advanced version of this Mudra for a greater effect on energy flow in your body.
